Center Policy
Calendar
The Family Subscription Plan runs from August 1 through July 31, covering four Music Together® song collections throughout the year. All classes, make-up sessions, and holiday breaks are outlined in the annual calendar provided. Families are required to re-enroll annually to ensure records remain current and accurate.
Enrollment
Families have the flexibility to join or pause as needed, even though enrollment runs through July 31, 2026. You’re welcome to start at any time during the year. A one-time registration fee is due at sign-up, along with a minimum two-month initial commitment.
Payments
Tuition is billed automatically on the 1st of each month at a consistent monthly rate. All payments are processed securely through our automated system, providing a seamless and convenient experience for families.
Family Materials
All paid families receive materials corresponding to each song collection in which they are registered. However, materials will not be provided if there are only three classes remaining in the song collection at the time of enrollment. Materials cannot be waived in exchange for discounted tuition.
Refunds
Refunds are available only if you withdraw before the first day of class and are subject to a $10 administrative fee. This fee will be waived if the class is canceled by the Director. No refunds will be issued on or after the first day of class. All refunds are processed by check only. There are no refunds for missed "Visit a Class" or drop-in days, and we do not reschedule missed drop-ins. The only exception for rescheduling is in the case of inclement weather.
Subscription Pausing/Cancelation
To pause or cancel your Family Subscription Plan, written notice must be sent to madysen@powellmusictulsa.com at least 30 days in advance. Your subscription will remain active through the last day of the month following your notification. Please note that when registering, families commit to a minimum two-month enrollment. If your cancellation aligns with the start of a new song collection, you will not receive the new songbook or access code. There are no refunds for unused classes.
Make-up Classes
Unlimited make-up classes are available for each child as long as your subscription is active. Make-ups must be scheduled online beforehand using the “Make-Up Scheduler” in the Enrolled Families menu on our website, with options to select by day or location. You’ll receive a confirmation email once your make-up is scheduled. While any class may be used as a make-up, we also offer nine special themed weeks called “Fun Days,” designed exclusively for enrolled families to use as make-up opportunities. To join, please sign up in advance using the “Make-Up Scheduler” or the “Fun Days” dropdown in the website menu.
Grownup Participation
Sing, dance, and have fun! You are your child’s most important music teacher right now—and it doesn’t matter whether you see yourself as a great singer or dancer. Young children learn by watching and imitating their loved ones, so your enthusiastic participation in class and at home helps nurture their love of music. To support a focused, music-only environment, please save socializing and cell phone use for after class. A parent or legal caregiver must stay and participate with their child for the entire class; older siblings may not attend in place of a parent or caregiver.
Visiting a Class
Prospective families may register for up to two Music Together® classes at their preferred location for $15 per family, per visit.
Guests
Family members, such as grandparents, aunts, and uncles, are always welcome to join the fun. If you’d like to bring an older child who is home on a school holiday, just let your teacher know in advance. The more, the merrier!
Food & Drink
Water bottles and sippy cups are welcome in class. We kindly ask that no food or other drinks be brought into the classroom. Of course, nursing and bottle-feeding infants is always welcome.
Cellphone
To support meaningful, play-based learning, cellphones should remain put away during class to ensure full engagement with your child(ren).
Photography & Videos
We want everyone in class to be fully participating, so we ask for you to refrain from taking photos or videos during class. Feel free, however, to take pictures before and after class—we can even give your child an instrument to hold for the picture.
Inflation Rates
We reserve the right to increase tuition by up to 2% every even-numbered year.
Illness
Please do not come to class if your child is sick. We offer a generous make-up policy so you never feel pressured to attend when your child isn’t feeling well. We ask that children be fever-free for at least 24 hours before returning to class. If a class is canceled due to teacher illness, a YouTube make-up class will be provided.
Severe Weather
In the event of inclement weather, families will be notified directly. As a general rule, we follow Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) cancellations. When in-person classes are canceled due to weather, sessions will be held virtually via Google Meet. A meeting link will be emailed to you in advance.
Questions About Music Together
What makes Music Together different?
LOTS of continual research! Music Together was first offered to the public in 1987 and pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum. Today classes are offered all over the world including a lab school in Princeton, New Jersey. Ongoing research at the lab school, as well as the research of others, continually informs Music Together’s work on program content and development, varied applications of the program, and teacher training. Everything we do in class has an intentionally, educational purpose!
For more details, feel free to check out Music Together's history, program philosophy, and curriculum.
Why are classes not separated by age groups?
Classes with children of different ages have intellectual and social benefits for both younger and older children. In fact, it's the learning environment recommended by many early childhood researchers. Older children learn empathy and awareness of others, while developing leadership qualities and gaining self-confidence. Younger children learn by imitating the older ones and often show more complex behaviors earlier than usual. Even babies benefit by being in an environment that gives them lots of opportunities to observe the behavior of children of varying ages. Plus, it allows everyone—siblings, parents, grandparents, caregivers—to share in the musical experience together!
How long is each class?
All classes are 45 minutes long and meet once a week.
What is the class size?
Each class has between 6 and 12 children, plus their grownup(s).
How should we use the Music Together materials?
Play your songs at home and in the car frequently, especially during the first few weeks of class. Make it available to the music available for your child to listen to while she is playing or before nap or bedtime. Create your Family Music Zone® account and download the Hello Everybody app for digital versions of the songs and more activity ideas to try!
Use the songbook to help you learn the songs and get new ideas for musical ideas to use at home. The music notation is in the book if you play an instrument and want to play along. Try using the songbook at storytime instead of a regular book and sing through the songs as you go along.
What happens after we complete a song collection?
A different song collection is used each season—there are twelve different song collections—so you can look forward to expanding your repertoire with a variety of new songs and chants. The curriculum is designed so that families can continue classes for three years before revisiting a song collection. In three years, you and your child will learn over 375 songs! If you do continue in the program beyond three years (and we hope you will), your child will experience his or her first song collections in a brand new way.
Questions About Classes At Our Center
Is it just "mommy-and-me" or can other adults bring my child to class?
Any loving grown-up(s) can bring your child to class. We have many dads, grandparents, nannies, aunts, uncles, friends, and even great-grandparents who bring their children to class!
As the grownup, what is my role in class?
Sing, dance, and have fun! You might be surprised to hear that YOU are your child's most important music teacher right now—and it doesn't matter whether you think of yourself a great singer or dancer. Young children develop dispositions for certain behaviors, including learning to love music, by observing and imitating their loved ones. Simply by participating enthusiastically during class and playing with the ideas at home, you'll give your children the modeling they need to learn to love to make music. Please wait to socialize or use your cell phone until after class and instead help us create a music-only environment.
What is expected of my child in class?
At Music Together, children are never required to sit in the circle or expected to conform to an adult's idea of participation. We know that children learn differently than adults. They learn instinctively and constantly, through observation, interactions with adults and other children, and through imitation and play, and, especially, movement. One hallmark of Music Together is the insight that children will naturally develop music ability simply when they are immersed in a community of families all making music.
Children's responses depend on their most dominant learning style and temperament as well as their age and developmental level. Some might follow the teacher right away. Many will simply want to watch and absorb, particularly in the first few weeks of class. Some might crawl or toddle around; others are stimulated by the music and respond more actively. All are perfectly natural responses to the new, musically rich environment. However, we do want to nurture respectful interactions in class—such as being kind to others, using walking feet, and refraining from throwing objects—so that everyone can enjoy a safe and friendly environment.
What can I expect at the start of each class?
Arrive 5-10 minutes early to settle in—use the restroom, remove your shoes, silence and put away your phone, and get ready for the fun!
How can I best use the Music Together materials outside of class?
Play your songs at home and in the car frequently, especially during the first few weeks of class. Make it available for your child to listen to while playing or before nap or bedtime. Create your Family Music Zone® account and download the Hello Everybody® app for digital versions of the songs and more activity ideas to try!
Do classes run continuously? How are holidays handled?
Holidays have already been factored into tuition costs. Classes will run each week unless specified on our calendar.
I forgot my username and/or password. What do I do?
Under the username and password prompts, click ‘Forgot your Password?’ and enter your email address and your information will be emailed to you. If you do not remember which email address you used, contact us.
Can I change my class day and time once I'm enrolled?
Absolutely! We know that nap times and schedules change. As long as there is space in your new desired class, we can move you into it.
Can I join for just one song collection?
You get to choose how long you are enrolled in classes. As long as you take classes for a minimum of two months, you can then cancel at anytime. We don't officially organize our classes into "semesters" as we did in the past, but we still follow the Music Together® Song Collections schedule.
How will I be billed?
At registration, you are charged a registration fee, plus the cost for the first's months tuition. (If you join in the middle of the month, a prorated amount will apply.) All billing is then done automatically on a monthly basis using a credit or debit card that you have saved in your account profile. Automatic payments begin on the date that you receive enrollment confirmation for your class and then subsequently occur on the 1st of each month. It is your responsibility to keep the credit card information up to date--changes can be made either by logging in to your account or by contacting us to make the changes for you. There will be a $10 charge for declined credit card transactions.
Why do I pay the same tuition amount each month when some months have fewer classes than others?
While some months may have fewer classes due to holidays or breaks, we offer unlimited classes and make-ups year-round. To keep things simple and hassle-free, our monthly pricing remains consistent because tuition is divided over the cost of the year. On average, you can expect to attend about three to four classes per month.
Why do you require families to join for a minimum of two months before being able to pause or cancel their subscription?
We require a minimum two-month commitment because it gives families the best opportunity to truly experience the benefits of our music and movement classes. Young children thrive on routine and repetition—two key elements in early childhood learning—so attending regularly over time helps support meaningful musical development. It also allows time to build connections: little ones become more comfortable and engaged, and grownups begin to form relationships with others in the class, creating a warm, music community.
Does the Family Subscription Plan have an end date?
The Family Subscription Plan runs from August 1 through July 31, covering four Music Together song collections throughout the year. All classes, make-up sessions, and holiday breaks are outlined in the annual calendar provided. Families are required to re-enroll annually to ensure records remain current and accurate.
What if I need to pause or cancel my Family Subscription Plan?
At least 30 days' notice is required to cancel by sending written notification to madysen@powellmusictulsa.com. Your Family Subscription Plan will end on the last day of the month following notification. If cancellation corresponds with the start of a new song collection, you will not receive the new songbook and access code. There are no refunds for unused classes.
